Radom Landfill Fire: 22 Fire Units Respond

Firefighters Battle Landfill Blaze

On Wednesday, April 29th, before 6:00 AM, the fire department received a report of a fire at the municipal landfill on Witosa Street in Radom. The fire covered approximately 300 square meters of the landfill, creating a black smoke plume visible in the area.

According to Radom fire department spokesperson Captain Adrian Skrzek, firefighters focused on supplying water to the burning waste and securing the scene.

Smoke and Operational Challenges

A thick, black smoke cloud was visible above the landfill, accompanied by a burning smell. While the smoke was not considered an immediate threat to public health, residents were advised to keep windows closed and avoid unnecessary travel in the vicinity.

The fire’s location within the landfill presented challenges, requiring firefighters to reach the source of the fire amidst accumulated waste. Some waste had to be removed to effectively extinguish the flames.

Investigation Underway; Previous Incidents

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is being investigated by investigators and a fire expert. The Radom fire department spokesperson stated that similar incidents have occurred at this landfill in previous years.
