Russian Pilots Destroy Target in Zapad 2025 Exercise Using Bastion Missile Systems

Russian forces during the Zapad 2025 exercises successfully destroyed a maritime target simulating an enemy group with ‘Bastion’ missiles equipped with maneuverable ‘Oniks’ during training.

Main Training Exercise Features

The Zapad 2025 exercises involve over 13,000 Russian and Belarusian soldiers, with intelligence indicating a deployment of up to 30,000 troops from opposing blocs. The training involves the use of hypersonic Oresznik missiles and non-nuclear tactical weapons simulations.

Specific Training Operations

Forces at the Archangel Island base in the Franz Josef Islands group conducted a simulated nuclear-weapon-free attack using maneuvering ‘Oniks’ missiles from the ‘Bastion’ coastal missile systems, successfully hitting targets in excess of 200 meters away.

Air Force Involvement

Long-range Tu-22M3 strategic bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces conducted simulated attacks on enemy targets, including the disruption of critical system operations and the destruction of key facilities.
