On Wednesday, June 10, the Sejm began deliberations on a Law and Justice (PiS) motion to dismiss Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński, citing failures in railway security, border management, and policing.
A Critical Motion Before the Sejm
Members of Parliament challenged Minister Marcin Kierwiński, accusing him of mismanagement regarding railway sabotage, instability at the western border, frequent false alarms, and a broader crisis within the police force and flood relief efforts.
Committee Dismisses Opposition Claims
The Administration and Internal Affairs Committee issued a negative opinion on the motion. Maria Małgorzata Janyska stated that the majority of the committee found the proposal absurd, disconnected from reality, and poorly presented.
Accusations of Misconduct and “Chaos”
PiS MP Andrzej Śliwka opened his remarks by playing a recording of Kierwiński from the 2024 Firefighters’ Day. The opposition had previously alleged the minister was intoxicated during the event, a charge he denied, attributing his performance to technical issues and reverb, supported by a subsequent breathalyzer test confirming a zero result.
Demands for Resignation
Andrzej Śliwka labeled the minister “a man of chaos,” arguing that Kierwiński lacks control over his own conduct and his government responsibilities. The MP concluded that if the minister possesses any sense of honor or courage, he should resign immediately.
