Court Delays Ziobro’s Arrest Hearing

Warsaw court postpones Zbigniew Ziobro’s arrest hearing to February 5 as prosecutors seek 26 charges including organized crime.

Court Postponement

The District Court for Warsaw-Mokotów postponed the hearing concerning Zbigniew Ziobro’s arrest warrant to February 5. The prosecution requested this measure, which had previously been approved by the Sejm. Investigators intend to present 26 charges to the former Minister of Justice, including leading an organized criminal group accused of embezzling funds from the Justice Fund. Zbigniew Ziobro is currently in Hungary, where the authorities have granted the PiS deputy political asylum.

Justice Minister’s Response

Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek commented on the postponement: “Let’s wait patiently for the court’s decision. After eight years of Z. Ziobro heading the Ministry of Justice, all citizens, including the deputy himself, must wait a long time for their cases to be resolved. The deputy, as seen, is practically making full use of his defense rights.” He added, “We must reform the system to decisively shorten the time courts take to make decisions and issue rulings. Simply for justice.”

Hungarian Opposition Reaction

Former MP Stefan Niesiołowski also commented: “The circus with Ziobro’s arrest continues. The case is being postponed, and the regional court sets new dates. This is mockery and playing for time. Ziobro is responsible for destroying the rule of law, corruption, eight years of his regime, and he rambles about persecution. When will this vile, corrupt coward finally end up in prison?”

Meanwhile, Hungary’s main opposition party issued a brief statement: “Under the TISZA party’s rule, Hungary will no longer be a refuge for foreign criminals.”
