A 44-year-old man was arrested in Warsaw after driving with over twice the legal alcohol limit and despite three active driving bans.
Dangerous Driving Reported
Police detained the man after a report from another driver who observed his erratic and dangerous driving. The witness reported the Mercedes he was driving was swerving between lanes and making unsafe maneuvers, posing a threat to other road users.
The reporting driver maintained contact with police, providing updates on the vehicle’s location, which allowed officers to intercept it on Krajewskiego Street.
High Alcohol Level and Vehicle Defects
A breathalyzer test revealed the driver had over two per mille of alcohol in his system. Further inspection revealed the vehicle lacked valid insurance and a current technical inspection.
The car was not owned by the driver, but borrowed from a foreign acquaintance.
Multiple Driving Bans Discovered
Police checks revealed the 44-year-old had three active driving bans issued by regional courts. These bans were issued by the Przasnysz Regional Court (February 2026 – 36 months, and 2025 – 12 months) and the Warsaw Praga-Południe Regional Court (2025 – 60 months).
The offense occurred only two months after the most recent Przasnysz court ruling became final.
Arrest and Charges
The driver was arrested and held in police custody, with the vehicle impounded. He has been charged with driving under the influence and disregarding court-ordered driving bans.
Following a request from the Warsaw Żoliborz District Prosecutor’s Office, the court ordered a three-month pre-trial detention. He faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
