U.S. media reports that FBI Director Kash Patel is increasingly seen in public while intoxicated, prompting concern within the White House.
FBI Director’s Public Intoxication Raises Concerns
American media outlets report that FBI Director Kash Patel regularly appears publicly intoxicated, a behavior known within the Trump administration and causing worry.
According to “The Atlantic,” Patel has on multiple occasions been difficult for subordinates to rouse. Concerns over Patel’s alcohol abuse have reportedly been longstanding within federal agencies.
Reported Incidents at Private Clubs and During Travel
Patel allegedly appeared visibly intoxicated multiple times at Ned’s in Washington D.C., in the presence of White House staff and other administration officials. Excessive drinking is also reported at the Poodle Room in Las Vegas, where Patel frequently spends weekends.
Disrupted Meetings and Security Concerns
“The Atlantic” reports that early in Patel’s tenure, morning meetings were often delayed due to his alcohol-fueled nights. Six current and former officials, along with individuals familiar with his schedule, were cited as sources.
Over the past year, Patel has reportedly been difficult for his security detail to awaken on several occasions, appearing intoxicated. In one instance, balancing equipment typically used by counterterrorism units was requested when Patel was unreachable behind locked doors.
Incident During Italy Trip and White House Reaction
In February, Patel was filmed drinking beer with the U.S. men’s hockey team after they won an Olympic gold medal during an official visit to Italy. This prompted President Donald Trump, who does not drink and whose brother died after a long battle with alcoholism, to express his dissatisfaction to Patel.
Sources emphasize the issue extends beyond occasional alcohol consumption.
Concerns Over Truthfulness and Potential Replacement
FBI and administration officials have reportedly questioned whether alcohol played a role in instances where Patel provided inaccurate information regarding ongoing investigations, including the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Some fear Trump will react strongly if attention focuses on Patel’s partying and private use of government aircraft.
FBI and White House Statements
The FBI, in a statement attributed to Patel, stated, “Print it, it’s all false, see you in court – bring your checkbook.” White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated Patel remains a “key player in the administration’s law and order team.”
“The Atlantic” reports Patel fears for his job, and discussions about a potential successor are underway.
