Iran has reimposed restrictions on maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, reversing earlier statements regarding its opening.
Iran Reasserts Control Over Strait of Hormuz
Iran has fully blocked the Strait of Hormuz once again, reinstating strict control over maritime movement in the critical waterway on Saturday.
The country’s combined military command announced Saturday that “control over the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous state… under the strict management and control of the armed forces.”
Response to U.S. Port Blockade
The decision comes in response to the United States’ continued blockade of Iranian ports, which Washington has conditioned on a broader political agreement.
Iran had briefly signaled a potential easing of restrictions, but clarified that this did not equate to unrestricted navigation.
