Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk alleged connections between the ruling PiS party and Zondacrypto, a cryptocurrency exchange now under investigation for fraud, during a parliamentary debate Friday.
Parliament Rejects Presidential Veto on Crypto Law
The Sejm failed to override the presidential veto on the cryptocurrency market act on Friday. The legislation included supervisory measures, such as granting the Financial Supervision Commission the power to halt public offerings of cryptocurrencies.
Clubs representing Civic Coalition (KO), Polish People’s Party (PSL), The Left, Center, and Poland 2050 voted against the veto, while PiS and Confederation clubs opposed its rejection.
Tusk Links Zondacrypto to Political Sponsorship
Prior to the vote, Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that persistent blocking of the law, which could have prevented situations like the one surrounding Zondacrypto, was causing suffering for tens of thousands of people. He described Zondacrypto’s origins as “worthy of a strong crime film.”
Tusk further claimed the firm had become a sponsor of political and social events in Poland, specifically mentioning its strategic sponsorship of the CPAC event in Rzeszów, which promoted President Karol Nawrocki and a previous president.
Alleged Funding of Zbigniew Ziobro’s Institute
Tusk revealed that Przemysław Kral, the CEO of Zondacrypto, allegedly deposited 450,000 złoty into the foundation of the Institute of Polish Sovereignty, headed by Zbigniew Ziobro, between October and November 2025.
Addressing Jarosław Kaczyński directly, Tusk questioned whether he was aware his deputy was receiving funds from Zondacrypto.
Prosecutor Launches Investigation into Zondacrypto
Attorney General Waldemar Żurek announced Friday that the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice has initiated proceedings against Zondacrypto, investigating potential fraud and money laundering.
Significant Financial Damage Reported
The estimated damage in the Zondacrypto case currently exceeds 350 million złoty, with complaints being filed from across the country. The investigation focuses on allegedly misleading individuals regarding the purchase and storage of fiat and cryptocurrencies on the exchange.
Missing BitBay Founder Holds Zondacrypto Wallet Keys
Zondacrypto CEO Przemysław Kral stated that the exchange holds a wallet containing 4,500 bitcoins, worth over $300 million, but the keys are held by Sylwester Suszek, the missing founder of BitBay, which Zondacrypto succeeded.
Suszek disappeared in 2022. Reports indicate Zondacrypto, Poland’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, may be facing liquidity issues.
Zondacrypto Addresses Withdrawal Concerns
Zondacrypto recently communicated via social media that they are working to process user withdrawals despite facing system limitations, prioritizing fulfilling obligations to users and partners.
