Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also previously announced the planned meeting between the Iranian minister and the Russian leader.

The 2025 strategic agreement between Russia and Iran does not include a mutual defense commitment. During a period in June 2025 when the US and Israel bombed targets in Iran, both Russia and China limited their response to diplomatic statements.
