Two-Year Prison Sentence for ‘Grandchild Method’ Scammer

The Ostrołęka District Court sentenced Kamil C. to two years in prison on July 8, 2026, for defrauding a 94-year-old woman of 30,000 PLN and attempting three similar scams.

Criminal Prosecution and Sentencing

Kamil C. pleaded guilty to four counts of fraud at his trial on July 8, 2026. The Ostrołęka District Court sentenced him to two years in prison, with credit given for time already served.

The court ordered the defendant to repay the 30,000 PLN stolen from the victim, Weronika R. Additionally, the judge mandated the public announcement of the verdict by posting the ruling at the Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki City Hall for three months and ordered the forfeiture of the defendant’s mobile phones and SIM cards used in the crimes.

The Ostrołęka Fraud

On January 19, 2026, the 94-year-old victim was contacted by a woman posing as her daughter-in-law. The caller claimed the victim’s son had caused an accident involving a pregnant woman and required immediate bail money.

The victim was instructed that a “trusted lawyer” would arrive to collect the funds. Weronika R. handed over 30,000 PLN to a masked man, identified later by prosecutors as Kamil C., before realizing she had been deceived.

Failed Attempts in Białystok and Ełk

Between January 20 and 22, 2026, Kamil C. attempted to defraud three additional women in Białystok and Ełk using similar tactics. Callers posing as police officers or family members pressured victims to pay bail to prevent relatives from being arrested.

The attempts, totaling 42,000 PLN, were unsuccessful due to the vigilance of the targeted women and their neighbors. Kamil C. acted as the “trusted lawyer” throughout these incidents, responsible for collecting the illicit funds from the victims.
