Court Blocks Grzegorz Braun’s Bid to Rename Party After Himself

The Warsaw District Court has rejected an application to change the name of the Confederation of the Polish Crown, a move intended by Grzegorz Braun to boost his party’s electoral support.

Application for Party Name Change Rejected

On May 20, an application was filed with the District Court in Warsaw to change the name of the Confederation of the Polish Crown to the Confederation of the Polish Crown of Grzegorz Braun. The application was dismissed by a ruling on June 22, 2026.

Sylwia Urbańska-Tkocz, the press officer for civil cases at the Warsaw District Court, stated that the ruling is not legally binding. The court did not provide a reason for its decision to “Rzeczpospolita,” noting that this information will appear in the written justification of the ruling, which has not yet been drafted.

Expected Increase in Electoral Support

Grzegorz Braun anticipated an increase in support following the party’s name change. Polling research indicated that including the party leader’s surname in the group’s name could increase its backing.

In an interview with “Najwyższy Czas,” Grzegorz Braun stated that the change concerned half a percentage point. He emphasized that this “can translate into the ability to tip the scales in a broad parliamentary arrangement.” Braun declared that they cannot ignore this, noting that while he might personally have preferred not to put himself forward in that manner, they will stick to it since the respondents delivered the verdict.

Voter Confusion Between Right-Wing Factions

The politician added that some voters still confuse his grouping with Confederation Liberty and Independence, led by Sławomir Mentzena and Krzysztof Bosak. Braun noted that there are still good patriots who, in the rush of political changes on the Polish scene, overlooked the fact that the Confederation Liberty and Independence, which they once co-created, is now a thing of the past.
