Denial of formal correspondence
Marzena Gawkowska, deputy spokesperson for the Warsaw City Hall, refuted reports from the zero.pl portal. She stated that no official document regarding irregularities at the Southern Hospital’s emergency department was registered with the city office or the mayor’s office.
Gawkowska described the reports as misleading, clarifying that while private messages were exchanged, they do not constitute a formal channel for reporting institutional misconduct.
Trzaskowski on reporting procedures
Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski addressed the claims on social media, emphasizing that private messages are not valid formal notifications. He stated that he receives hundreds of messages daily and cannot review every single communication.
The Mayor noted that individuals with knowledge of potential legal violations should utilize established whistleblowing procedures or notify relevant authorities, such as the prosecutor’s office, to ensure proper registration and follow-up.
Allegations and hospital leadership changes
Reports suggested that a former department head allegedly alerted hospital management and the mayor regarding the conduct of Dawid Kacprzyk, who was managing the emergency ward without the necessary specialization. Further allegations included the performance of procedures by unqualified staff and preferential treatment for certain political figures.
The physician who made these claims was dismissed in September 2024 due to alleged issues with National Health Fund reporting, patient complaints, and missing patient deposits. Trzaskowski confirmed that the hospital is currently involved in a legal dispute with the former employee.
Administrative response
Following the emergence of these reports, Trzaskowski announced the dismissal of the Southern Hospital’s supervisory board. This action followed the removal of the hospital’s management board a day earlier.
