The Brzoska Gift Controversy: Presidential Office Denies Official Meeting Status

The Presidential Office has officially declared that a meeting between Karol Nawrocki and entrepreneur Rafał Brzoska was private, shielding it from public disclosure requirements regarding gifts and documentation.

A Question of Official Business

“Gazeta Wyborcza” reported last year that InPost CEO Rafał Brzoska and his wife, entrepreneur and philanthropist Omenaa Mensah, visited the Presidential Palace shortly after Karol Nawrocki’s swearing-in. Reports alleged they brought over 20 personalized gift packages for Nawrocki and his family, which were subsequently transported to the Belweder Palace by a presidential driver.

Legal Battle Over Public Disclosure

The Citizens Network Watchdog Poland sought information regarding the nature of the meeting and the gifts exchanged. The Presidential Office initially claimed it possessed no such information. Following a ruling by the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw, which criticized the administration’s lack of transparency, the office was ordered to reconsider the request.

Closing the Door on Inquiry

The court clarified that disclosure obligations apply only to official presidential duties. Following the final court judgment, the Presidential Office informed Gazeta.pl that the meeting with Brzoska was not official, and therefore, records regarding the encounter and any gifts are not subject to public information laws.

Disputed Accounts of the Gifts

The details regarding the gifts remain contested. In November, Omenaa Mensah’s PR advisor, Justyna Komorek, denied that over 20 packages were delivered. She maintained that only three small packages containing symbolic, sentimental items, such as puzzles and souvenirs from Ghana, were provided.
