Poland Sets Maximum Fuel Prices

Poland’s Energy Minister announced maximum fuel prices effective March 31, 2026, with penalties up to 1 million złoty for violations.

Maximum Fuel Prices Established

An announcement published in the Polish Monitor on March 30, 2026, sets maximum fuel prices at stations nationwide. The limit for 95-octane gasoline is 6.16 złoty per liter, 98-octane is 6.76 złoty, and diesel fuel is capped at 7.60 złoty.

Enforcement and Penalties

The maximum prices take effect the day after the announcement, Tuesday, March 31st. Selling fuel above the set price will result in fines of up to 1 million złoty, enforced by the National Tax Administration.

Price Calculation Methodology

The maximum price is calculated using a statutory formula that includes the average wholesale price of fuel, excise duty, fuel surcharge, a sales margin of 0.30 złoty per liter, and VAT.

Excise Duty Reduction

A regulation from the Minister of Finance and Economy, published on Saturday, came into effect on Monday, reducing excise duties on fuels. Benzin excise is lowered to 1239 złoty per 1,000 liters, diesel to 880 złoty, and biocomponents to 880 złoty, effective until April 15th.

Legislative Basis

The regulation stems from an amendment to the excise tax law, effective Sunday, allowing for temporary excise duty reductions via regulation until June 30th. A simultaneous amendment to the oil reserves law introduced the mechanism for calculating maximum fuel prices. During the reduced VAT period, starting March 31st, fuel retailers must adhere to the maximum price.
