Deputy Prime Minister Adam Gawkowski leveled accusations against President Andrzej Duda and Karol Nawrocki, alleging a violation of the constitution and calling for a Tribunal of State.
Minister Accuses Duda and Nawrocki of Undermining Constitution
In an interview, the Deputy Prime Minister outlined a vision of a state fighting for technological sovereignty amidst a deep conflict with the Presidential Palace. He stated that Poland is “burning” due to the actions of Karol Nawrocki and Andrzej Duda, claiming they are responsible for the need to defend the Constitution “at all costs.”
Gawkowski likened this situation to historical betrayals of the May 3rd Constitution.
Tribunal of State for Presidential Actions
Gawkowski stated that abdicating responsibilities warrants referral to the Tribunal of State. He criticized both the former and current presidents, asserting their actions should result in prosecution before the Tribunal.
Criticism of Presidential Inaction
The minister argued that one president failed to fulfill his duties without facing consequences due to the ruling PiS party, while the current president also neglects his obligations but faces a more challenging situation due to a more reasonable parliament. Both, he claims, have abdicated their responsibilities, which he believes justifies a Tribunal of State.
Blocking of Legislation and Digital Regulation
Gawkowski accused the president of blocking legislation, including provisions for child safety online, despite incorporating all of Nawrocki’s demands into the proposed legislation (DSA2.0). He affirmed his commitment to pursuing his projects, including regulations concerning the digital market and a digital tax for tech giants.
AI Act Implementation and Oversight
The ministry prioritizes the implementation of the EU AI Act without unnecessary overregulation. The legislative process, according to Gawkowski, is expected to conclude before the summer, leading to the establishment of a Commission for AI Development and Security, responsible for both promoting development and overseeing the market, including model certification.
The minister indicated a willingness to block harmful technologies, but only as a last resort.
Cooperation with Zandberg Possible
Gawkowski expressed openness to collaborating with Adrian Zandberg.
Smartphone Ban and Online Safety
Gawkowski supports the Ministry of Education’s plan to ban smartphones in schools starting September 1, 2026. He announced measures to prevent easy access to pornography and social media for individuals under 14-15 years old, citing the upcoming European digital identity wallet as a helpful tool.
Technological Sovereignty and Cybersecurity
The minister emphasized the importance of building technological sovereignty, encompassing the development of domestic AI models, data centers, and digital infrastructure. He highlighted the law on the national cybersecurity system as a key achievement of the ministry.
Support for Hennig-Kloska and Future Elections
Regarding the vote to dismiss Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Gawkowski declared his support and expressed confidence that the government would not collapse. He also stated that the Left should run independently in next year’s elections, while remaining open to renewed cooperation with Zandberg’s formation.
