Prosecutor Confirms Fatal Electrocution of Teenager in “Train Surfing” Incident

Warsaw prosecutors confirmed that a 16-year-old found dead on May 3 near the Ursus Niedźwiadek station died from an electric shock and a fall while riding on the roof of a train.

Cause of Death Determined

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw confirmed that the 16-year-old victim was electrocuted and subsequently fell from the roof of a train. An autopsy has officially ruled out the possibility that the teenager was struck by the train.

Details of the Ursus Niedźwiadek Incident

The incident occurred on May 3, shortly after 6:00 PM, on the R1 rail line. Despite nearly an hour of resuscitation efforts by witnesses and emergency services, the boy could not be saved. Investigators gathered footage from station monitors and interviewed train drivers to establish the timeline of events.

Circumstances of the Tragedy

Evidence suggests the teenager was traveling on the roof of a train heading toward Pruszków. He was likely electrocuted by the overhead power lines during the train’s arrival or departure at the station, falling into the gap between the tracks. No arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed at this stage of the ongoing investigation.

Second Incident involving Train Surfing

Approximately two hours later, an 18-year-old woman was found near Parzniew with injuries from a fall and electrical burns. The woman, who survived, told police she had been riding on the train roof while consuming alcohol. While both incidents occurred on the same line, authorities have found no direct link between the two cases.
