Russia Behind Poland’s Wave of False Alarms? Officials Demand Investigation

Polish officials are calling for a thorough investigation into whether a recent series of hoax security threats targeting prominent figures and institutions constitutes a coordinated Russian hybrid warfare operation.

Calls for Mandatory Military Training

On May 25, MEP Michał Dworczyk argued that Poland must restore mandatory military service. He noted that Poland is the only country on NATO’s eastern flank bordering the Russian Federation that has not yet reinstated such training.

Suspicions of Russian Hybrid Tactics

Addressing the recent wave of false security alerts, Dworczyk suggested the incidents must be investigated for ties to Russian hybrid warfare. He emphasized that these actions, which deepen political and social polarization in Poland, cannot be disregarded regardless of their origin.

Government Perspective on Destabilization

Deputy Foreign Minister Ignacy Niemczycki noted that these incidents align with hybrid tactics aimed at fostering internal conflict. While he acknowledged the potential for foreign involvement, he noted that the possibility of domestic politically-motivated actors acting alone remains a consideration.

Incidents Targeting Public Figures

Services have recently responded to numerous false alarms, including at the residences of Telewizja Republika head Tomasz Sakiewicz, PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński, and the family home of Karol Nawrocki in Gdańsk.

Forced Entry in Gdańsk

On May 23, emergency services forced entry into Karol Nawrocki’s family apartment after receiving two false reports regarding fires and life-threatening emergencies involving children. The apartment was empty during the intervention, and the reports were confirmed to be fabricated.
