US-Iran Negotiations Proceed Without Key Political Figure

US-Iran negotiations are continuing, but with the absence of J.D. Vance from the American delegation due to security concerns, according to President Trump.

US Delegation Composition

The US delegation will consist of special envoy for peace missions Steve Witkoff and President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, both of whom participated in previous negotiations with Iran in Pakistan and Geneva before the current conflict began.

Vance’s Exclusion from Talks

J.D. Vance will not participate in the upcoming negotiations with Iran. President Trump stated Vance would not travel to Islamabad “for security reasons,” citing the Secret Service’s inability to guarantee his safety with only 24-hour notice.

Conflicting Reports and Trump’s Potential Travel

Despite earlier reports from Ambassador Mike Waltz that Vance would travel to Pakistan, Trump confirmed Vance’s absence. Trump also suggested he “might” travel to Pakistan at a later date, depending on the progress of the talks, and previously stated he would be willing to go to Pakistan to sign an agreement.

Failed Initial Talks and Internal Assessments

Vance led the US delegation during the first round of talks in Islamabad last weekend, which ended in failure. Trump has reportedly been seeking opinions from friends regarding Vance’s performance in this mission, potentially in relation to future succession and speculation about a rivalry with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Concerns Regarding FBI Director’s Conduct

Sources from “The Atlantic” suggest FBI Director Kash Patel allegedly struggled with alcohol, causing security agents difficulty in waking him when needed.

Threats of Military Action

Ambassador Waltz stated that Trump is fully prepared to carry out his threat to destroy all bridges and power plants in Iran if an agreement is not reached, characterizing such an attack as “another step on the escalation ladder” and referencing similar actions during World War II.

Progress and Impasse in Negotiations

Trump has recently suggested he is close to reaching an agreement that would permanently end the war with Iran, which began on February 28th. However, these signals have not been confirmed by Tehran. A ceasefire is currently in place, set to expire between Tuesday and Wednesday night.
