A speed camera on Jerozolimskie Avenue in Warsaw was damaged by blunt force despite being under surveillance, with police unaware until questioned by reporters.
Repeated Vandalism at Warsaw Location
The speed camera at Jerozolimskie Avenue 239 was vandalized again during the night of March 28-29, 2026. The device’s housing shows signs of multiple impacts from a blunt instrument.
The damage occurred despite the presence of surveillance, and police were not informed of the damage until questioned by the editorial team.
Lack of Initial Response
Visible traces of a deliberate attack are evident at the scene, with numerous dents and marks on the camera housing. Authorities did not receive any reports of the damage, leaving the incident unaddressed for an unknown period.
Neither the Main Inspectorate of Road Transport nor the police were present at the location when inquiries were made, as no notification of the vandalism had been received.
History of Attacks Since 2024
The camera, launched on November 14, 2024, quickly became one of Warsaw’s most active speed enforcement points, registering thousands of violations.
The first major attack was reported in early February 2025, requiring repairs. After being reinstalled in April 2025, it was vandalized again the same night. It returned to service on December 23, 2025, with added surveillance.
Recent Incidents and Security Failures
Despite the additional monitoring, the camera was splashed with paint during the night of January 2-3, 2026. This latest act of vandalism demonstrates that additional security measures have not deterred the perpetrators.
The camera at Jerozolimskie Avenue 239 has been repeatedly repaired, reinstalled, and damaged since its launch. Determining if the surveillance footage captured the perpetrator and why the damage wasn’t reported sooner is now crucial.
