A 13-year-old girl was hospitalized in Mława on Saturday evening after suffering carbon monoxide poisoning while bathing in a home equipped with a gas heater that had not been serviced in over a decade.
The Incident and Rescue
On Saturday evening, a 13-year-old girl fell unconscious after taking a bath in a private residence in Mława. Emergency services were immediately contacted by the family, and the child was transported to the hospital.
Fortunately, the victim’s condition is stable and her life is not in danger. Firefighters who arrived at the scene confirmed the presence of dangerous gas levels, with measurements showing carbon monoxide concentrations significantly exceeding safety limits.
Neglected Maintenance and Safety Risks
Initial police investigations revealed that the gas heater in the bathroom had not undergone mandatory technical inspections for over a dozen years. Detailed inquiries into the case are currently ongoing.
Carbon monoxide, known as the “silent killer,” is both colorless and odorless, making it impossible to detect without equipment. Exposure can lead to loss of consciousness, permanent health damage, or death.
Preventive Measures
Regular inspections of ventilation systems, heating equipment, and gas appliances are essential for household safety. Experts strongly recommend installing carbon monoxide detectors, which are inexpensive devices capable of saving lives.
In the event of suspected carbon monoxide presence, residents should immediately evacuate the premises and call emergency services at 112.
