Emergency services in Wałcz, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, evacuated dozens of residents and military personnel on Tuesday afternoon following a significant gas leak reported at a fuel station on Wronia Street.
Emergency Response Underway
The fire department received reports of a gas leak at a fuel station on Wronia Street in Wałcz around 1:00 PM on Tuesday. Firefighters, police, and specialized hazardous material units are currently deployed at the site.
Evacuation of Nearby Residents
The Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Szczecin confirmed the evacuation of local residents. Reports indicate that dozens of individuals were affected, including 15 soldiers from a nearby military unit.
Authorities initially established a 200-meter safety perimeter. Following a reassessment of the danger zone, some residents have since been cleared to return to their homes.
Containment Efforts
Sub-inspector Małgorzata Radgowska of the Wałcz County Police Headquarters stated that the cause of the leak remains unknown at this time. Firefighters identified gas escaping from several distinct locations at the facility.
Crews are utilizing specialized equipment to pump out the substance. The emergency operation is ongoing.
