A fire broke out in a fourth-floor apartment on Obozowa Street in Warsaw’s Wola district on Friday night, requiring 30 firefighters to extinguish the blaze and leaving one person hospitalized.
The Emergency Response
The Warsaw Fire Department received reports of a balcony fire at 21:27. Upon arrival at Obozowa 22, crews confirmed the fourth-floor apartment was fully involved, with thick black smoke billowing from the windows and flames visible from the balcony.
Firefighters deployed two water lines: one via a mechanical ladder and another through the stairwell into the apartment. No residents were present in the unit at the time of the fire, which was contained in under 30 minutes.
Casualties and Site Safety
One security guard sustained a hand injury while attempting to activate the glass smoke extraction button and was transported to the hospital by paramedics. After extinguishing the flames, crews ventilated the building and inspected adjacent floors to ensure no other individuals were affected.
Scale of Damage and Cleanup
The apartment and its balcony were completely destroyed, with soot damage affecting the building’s facade and surrounding windows. Seven firefighting units, including the city’s operational group and 30 personnel, participated in the operation, supported by gas, energy, and police services. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
