Green Party leader Franziska Brantner criticized Klöckner for not meeting with Palestinian representatives, suggesting this created a one-sided view of the situation. SPD spokesperson Adis Ahmetović had previously criticized the military escort as a “glaring signal,” noting Gaza’s destruction and the displacement of over a million people.
Defense of Visit Approach
Klöckner defended her approach, stating she couldn’t see everything during her short visit but emphasized conversations with opposition figures in Jerusalem and both Israeli and Palestinian NGOs. She acknowledged Israeli military control over what was shown during her visit but maintained her right as “a friend of Israel” to form her own opinion.
Memorial Visit
Klöckner visited a memorial at the Supernova festival site, where Hamas killed approximately 400 people and abducted over 40 others on October 7, 2023. She comforted a mother who lost her daughter in the attacks, acknowledging the “great pain” experienced by victims.
