A 42-year-old man has been arrested and detained for three months following a collision in Makowiec on April 20th that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old.
Suspect Detained, Faces Eight Years Imprisonment
A court has ordered the 42-year-old suspect, accused of causing the traffic accident in Makowiec, to be held in custody for the next three months. He faces up to eight years in prison if convicted under Article 177 & 2 of the Penal Code.
Details of the Collision
The incident occurred on Monday, April 20th, on national road number 9 in Makowiec. Preliminary investigations reveal the 42-year-old driver of a BMW, while under the influence of alcohol (over 0.4 promille), collided with the rear of another BMW driven by the 19-year-old victim.
The 19-year-old’s vehicle then veered into the opposite lane and collided with a Volvo truck driven by a 23-year-old.
Victim Dies in Hospital
The 19-year-old driver was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect was initially held in police custody.
Charges Filed and Arrest Warrant Granted
On Wednesday, April 22nd, the man was brought before the Radom Zachód District Prosecutor’s Office and charged under Article 177 & 2 of the Penal Code. Prosecutors requested a temporary arrest warrant, which the court granted.
Penalties for Causing Death or Serious Injury
The law stipulates a prison sentence of six months to eight years for causing a traffic accident resulting in the death or serious injury of another person.
Investigation Ongoing
The investigation is being conducted by detectives from the Investigative Department of the Radom City Police, under the supervision of the Radom Zachód District Prosecutor’s Office.
