Sikorski Demands Opposition Apology Amid Kierwiński No-Confidence Vote

The Sejm will vote on a no-confidence motion against Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński this Wednesday, as Radosław Sikorski labels opposition accusations regarding recent service incidents as unfounded fabrications.

The No-Confidence Motion

The Sejm is scheduled to address a no-confidence motion against Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński on Wednesday, June 10. The motion, submitted by Law and Justice (PiS) deputies, cites railway sabotage, border chaos, false alarms targeting public figures, police disciplinary issues, and inadequate flood relief as the primary justifications.

Sikorski Calls for Accountability

Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski defended Kierwiński, dismissing allegations that government-led provocations were behind recent incidents involving public figures like Tomasz Sakiewicz. Sikorski characterized these events as “happenings” staged by pseudo-provocateurs rather than state actions.

Sikorski noted that authorities have since detained the individuals responsible for these incidents. He asserted that the opposition should apologize to the government and the Interior Minister for spreading what he described as unfounded insinuations.

Kierwiński Defends Performance

Marcin Kierwiński responded to the PiS allegations by highlighting improvements in police trust levels, citing CBOS data. He reported that the police force has seen a 13-point increase in public confidence during his tenure compared to the previous administration.

Addressing staffing concerns, the Minister detailed significant investments, including 30 percent pay raises and new housing allowances for officers. He also pointed to the civil protection law, which provides 35 billion zloty over two years, and noted that the number of illegal border crossings had been halved since his government took office.
