MP Łukasz Litewka’s Death and Electoral Performance
Łukasz Litewka, a Left party MP known for his charitable work, tragically died on Thursday at the age of 36 after being struck by a car while cycling.
In the October 15, 2023, parliamentary elections, Litewka received the highest number of votes (40,579) on the New Left list in district no. 32, surpassing current Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty, who received 22,332 votes. Both were elected to the Sejm.
Candidates to Replace Litewka
Rafał Adamczyk (5,900 votes) and Bożena Borowiec (4,937 votes) followed Litewka and Czarzasty in vote totals on the New Left list, but did not secure mandates. One of them may now replace Litewka in the Sejm.
Sejm electoral district no. 32 encompasses the cities of Dąbrowa Górnicza, Jaworzno, and Sosnowiec, as well as the Będzin and Zawiercie counties.
Rafał Adamczyk’s Background
Rafał Adamczyk, 52, was born in Dąbrowa Górnicza and holds a master’s degree in enterprise management and industrial marketing from the Silesian University of Technology, as well as postgraduate studies in urban planning from the Technical University of Katowice.
He is associated with Będzin, where he worked in the city hall, first as a plenipotentiary and press spokesperson for the mayor, and later as a vice-mayor.
Bożena Borowiec’s Background
If Adamczyk declines the mandate, the next candidate is Bożena Borowiec, 57, born in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. She is a graduate of sociology from Jagiellonian University.
Since 2018, as the deputy mayor of Dąbrowa Górnicza, she was responsible for social, housing, educational, and health policies in the municipality. In 2024, she became the deputy president of the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities.
Litewka’s Charitable Work
Łukasz Litewka was known for his charitable and social activities. His #TeamLitewka foundation publicized and supported the treatment of children and animal rescue, among other causes.
The foundation also responded to difficult situations in the local community, collecting funds for rehabilitation equipment or assistance for accident victims.
During the 2023 parliamentary election campaign, Litewka included images of dogs awaiting adoption from a local shelter on his campaign posters, along with their names and contact information. After the campaign, Litewka’s banners were used as insulation material for the shelter’s kennels.
