Road Safety and Penalties in Europe

Road safety has been a topic of public discussion for years, with many European countries implementing high fines based on vehicle value and longer driving bans as measures.

Poland has recently introduced higher fines for speeding and stricter sanctions for driving under alcohol influence.

Poland’s Current Fine System

Poland’s tariff of fines provides for substantial financial penalties for the most serious traffic violations. A police officer can impose a maximum fine of 5,000 zł for a single violation.

In cases of multiple violations during a single check, the total fine can reach 6,000 zł. If the case goes to court, the fine can be as high as 30,000 zł.

The highest fines include those for exceeding the speed limit by 71 km/h or more, which carries a 2,500 zł fine. For repeat offenders within two years, this can increase to 5,000 zł.
