Janusz Kowalski has resigned from the Law and Justice (PiS) parliamentary club, and will now serve as an independent MP, a move confirmed by party officials.
Kowalski’s Resignation and Party Response
Janusz Kowalski has officially resigned from the Law and Justice (PiS) parliamentary club. The resignation was confirmed by Rafał Bochenek, a spokesperson for the party, who stated that the letter of resignation was approved.
Kowalski announced his departure on social media, thanking PiS parliamentarians for their past collaboration and stating he will continue his mandate as an unaffiliated MP.
Statutory Consequences and Membership Loss
According to Rafał Bochenek, Kowalski’s departure from the parliamentary club automatically results in the loss of his membership in the Law and Justice party itself. While the official reasons for his decision remain unknown, reports suggest he had previously considered this step.
A Political Career Marked by Shifts
Janusz Kowalski, recently focused on cryptocurrency markets, has a varied political background. He has been associated with PiS since 2002, but also spent time in Civic Platform (2005). He returned to national politics in 2019, running on the PiS list as a representative of Solidarna Polska (later Suwerenna Polska).
During the United Right government, he held the positions of deputy minister in the State Assets and Agriculture ministries.
Second Departure This Week
This marks the second high-profile departure from the largest opposition party this week, following Łukasz Mejza’s announcement of his resignation from the PiS club just a day prior.
