A 39-year-old Ukrainian citizen was arrested in Prague after fleeing from a traffic stop while intoxicated and despite a lifetime driving ban.

Police Chase in Prague-North

A police pursuit unfolded in Prague-North after the driver of an Opel failed to stop for a routine check. The 36-year-old Ukrainian citizen abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, leading to his swift apprehension by officers from the North Prague Intelligence and Patrol Department.

The chase began around 8:00 PM on Saturday on Ratuszova Street, where the driver disregarded police signals and sped through the streets, endangering other road users.

Details of the Arrest

The fleeing driver abandoned his vehicle on Rzeszotarska Street and continued to escape on foot, but was quickly caught by police. He admitted to consuming a high-proof alcoholic beverage.

Checks revealed the man had a lifetime driving ban issued by the court in Otwock in late December 2024, and had previously received temporary driving bans for similar offenses.

Legal Consequences

A breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol content of nearly 1.5 per mille. He faces charges of failing to stop for police control, driving under the influence, and driving despite a lifetime ban.

The Ukrainian citizen could face up to five years in prison for these offenses and has been handed over to the court. His Opel was towed to a police impound lot.

Police Communication and Area of Operation

North Prague intelligence officers relayed information about the pursuit to other units via radio, providing updates on the driver’s direction of travel.

The incident occurred in the areas of Białołęka, Praga Północ, and Targówek.
