Sejm Rejects Motion of No Confidence Against Minister Kierwiński

The Polish Sejm has voted down a motion of no confidence against Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński, with 232 deputies voting against the proposal and 202 in favor.

The Vote Outcome

A total of 435 deputies participated in the vote. With the statutory majority set at 231, the motion failed to pass. One deputy abstained from the proceedings, effectively ending the challenge against the minister.

Accusations from Law and Justice

The motion, submitted by 79 Law and Justice (PiS) parliamentarians, accused Kierwiński of weakening internal security and diminishing public trust in state services. The opposition described the ministry’s management as reactive and overly aligned with political interests.

Critics cited several areas of failure, including railway sabotage, chaos at the western border, recurrent false alarms targeting public figures, crises within the police force, disciplinary issues, and inadequate flood relief efforts.

Kierwiński Denounces the Motion

The parliamentary Committee for Administration and Internal Affairs issued a negative opinion on the motion, calling it absurd and poorly drafted. Minister Kierwiński dismissed the claims as false, suggesting that frequent motions of this nature indicate he is performing his duties effectively against criminal elements.

Addressing the criticism, Kierwiński presented data showing an increase in police personnel from 93,000 to 102,000, while reducing vacancies. He further countered that the previous administration had neglected civil defense and safety structures, whereas his tenure has focused on sealing the Polish-Belarusian border and increasing effective deportations.

Regarding the surge of false bomb threats, the Minister reported that five individuals have been detained, with four currently held in temporary custody.
