On Friday, a collision between a VW and Opel on S2 towards Terespol caused a 15km traffic jam, with one driver testing positive for alcohol.
Collision Causes Major Traffic Delays
On Friday, March 13, around 2:30 PM, a collision occurred between a Volkswagen and an Opel on the S2 road towards Terespol, near Sztygarów Street. The incident created significant traffic disruptions, with a traffic jam stretching over 15 kilometers at its peak.
Accident Details and Vehicle Damage
Preliminary findings indicate the Volkswagen driver struck the Opel while changing lanes. The force of the collision was substantial, tearing off the Opel’s rear left wheel and dislodging the Volkswagen’s right front wheel from its front suspension. Following the collision, the Volkswagen came to a halt facing backward in the direction of traffic.
Police Response and Alcohol Testing
A police patrol and highway road service were dispatched to the scene. Officials conducted sobriety tests on both drivers. The Opel driver tested sober, while the Volkswagen driver was found to have nearly 1 permille of alcohol in his system.
Driver Detained and Traffic Impact
The Volkswagen driver was taken into custody. The damaged vehicle was towed to a police impound lot, with further proceedings scheduled after the driver sobers up. The collision occurred during Friday afternoon rush hour, quickly escalating into a major traffic situation. At its worst, the traffic jam extended from the Ursynów tunnel and spanned over 15 kilometers, causing significant delays for travelers heading toward Terespol.
